Abstract

This study explores pre-wedding photography practices among millennials in Pidie Regency. This phenomenon is evident as millennials, especially engaged couples, often conduct pre-wedding photo sessions a week before their wedding, which frequently violates Islamic norms through intimate poses and tight clothing. The primary issue is the extent to which the community understands and applies maqashid syari'ah principles in this context. Maqashid al-syari'ah aims to achieve good and avoid harm, focusing on achieving maslahat such as preserving intellect and societal welfare. However, pre-wedding photos with intimate poses and tabarruj contradict Islamic teachings. The research employs a qualitative approach with empirical data gathered from in-depth interviews with engaged couples, photographers in Padang Tiji Subdistrict, and religious and community leaders. Results indicate that while pre-wedding photography can capture important moments and enhance wedding decorations, it often includes elements that violate Islamic principles. Photos that adhere to Islamic teachings (covering aurat, no physical contact) can support a harmonious marriage, whereas intimate poses that breach Islamic norms are deemed haram. Pre-wedding photography is permissible if it avoids elements approaching zina and aligns with Islamic teachings, aiming to maximize benefit and minimize harm.
